Under the soft, wipeable surface is a layer of diatomite, the porous mineral used in fast-drying bath stones, which draws a splash through the knitted top and dries it in about ten seconds. The surface stays dry underfoot and wipes clean with a cloth, and the breathable rubber base keeps the mat where the splashes fall. It is slim enough for the dishwasher door to pass over.
