Finding a living-room lamp with character can be difficult when shops repeat plain ceramic cylinders in white and cones in matte black. Those familiar, unremarkable shapes appear throughout rented homes, leaving little variety when choosing something for your own room.

Chalice's character comes from its broad-shouldered, low urn form. Creamy-white glass carries dense tortoiseshell patches in chocolate and black, while gentle optic ribs run vertically along its sides. Mouth-blowing gives every base an individual pattern rather than repeating one arrangement.

Use a cloth with very little moisture on the glass, then polish it dry. The pattern cannot wipe away because it is enclosed within the glass. Clean brass using dry fabric, avoiding ammonia cleaners. No — choose one standard E26 bulb with a maximum of 40 W to set the light tone. Our photography uses an LED filament bulb at warm 2700K, approximately 400 lumens. It turns the burlap amber and highlights brown within the glass. For lower light, add a plug-in dimmer along the cable.

Does its scale suit a bedside or larger furniture?

Larger — place it on a sideboard, console or desk end rather than a bedside table. Its presence is nearer to compact furniture than a little accent lamp. Check the full measurements in the product details above before measuring the intended spot in your room.

Can I expect the exact base shown in photographs?

The palette is similar, but the pattern will differ. Coloured glass fragments attach while the gather is hot, stretching during mouth-blowing. Their distribution, size and concentration therefore vary for each base. Creamy white beneath chocolate brown, near-black and warm amber remains the colour combination, but the arrangement belongs to the individual piece. For two bedside lamps, order a pair with the understanding that their shared colours will coordinate rather than their markings matching exactly. Those small variations are part of how each glass base is formed.

What control turns it on?

A compact rocker is integrated into the transparent cable and rests on the table roughly a hand's length away from the footing. Press once to light it, again to turn it off. It uses no remote, app or touch control to interpret in darkness.

Is dimming the light possible?

Yes — use a plug-in lamp dimmer along the cable or choose a warm LED filament bulb that supports dimming. Both options work; the dimmable bulb provides the most gradual adjustment across the range.

Does it use genuine burlap, and what care does the shade need?

It is unlined, genuine jute burlap. Daylight passes through its open weave, and occasional fibres stand above the stitched seam. Clean without water, following the weave using a gentle clothes brush. Alternatively, cover a vacuum nozzle with stocking fabric and use low suction to protect the threads. Sponging or applying fabric-cleaning spray is unsuitable, since jute develops permanent water marks. If a loose thread appears, cut it using scissors instead of pulling it. Keeping the shade dry is important for preserving the fabric's surface.
